My Nana's bed

In 1984 my Nana passed away and I was lucky enough
to get a lot of her fabulous furniture. Her bed has trekked
along with me for many years. A full size bed is great but
these days I'm in with the KING. So, her bed has remained in
pieces. We wanted a bench for our entry, so here ya go! My husband
used only the wood from the original bed. I LOVE that I
am able to once again sit in my Nana's bed.

We did have to use some of our own new & old hardware.....

And of course, kept the original antique hardware too.

The inspiration for January at 12 months of Christmas Project
is white. So I found a YouTube video on bow making, some
white paper doily ribbon, sheet music, plain paper and
decided to try a few white bows. The video made it look
easy....mine came out a bit lopsided. I think I will try and
make a few each week...then by Christmas I'll have a
big bunch of them.

Painted Papers

I've accumulated a LOT of big painted papers.
I enjoy mixing colors, stamping,
spattering, smearing....whatever
So, what to do with this big collection???

Nana's creative time is limited right now....

I reached for a paper punch and went at it.
I found some colorful fiber yarn in my
stash and realized that the punched papers
fit perfectly between the hanging pieces of yarn.

Glued the pieces together with the yarn sandwiched in between.
It brings a lot of color to my computer desk in the
corner of my studio. I could make more because
I barely put a dent in the painted papers...
but that paper punch starts hurting my hands after a while.

I am happy with the results.

New Paint!

For over a month now these paints have been sitting
on my table. I've opened them, smeared them around on
various surfaces, admired said smears...
but have failed to really get into them.
So far, I LOVE the color, texture, look and especially
the way they go on with a brush.
I am waiting for the right moment.....which seems fleeting.
Maybe I will have more to say about these lovelies later...

A couple of months ago we had some new trees planted.
I asked the tree nurseryman for something with
great red fall color.
Behold the October Glory Maple Tree.
I am now positive these trees will not disappoint...even
if it happens in November.

Zip line! OH YEAH!
While they told us to make a funny face I was too
concerned with slowing down to worry about that.
Even though I am so pale both from fear and genetics
you can't really see the terror/glee on my face anyway.
Then, there is my dear husband who was going so fast
they almost missed the shot. However, he was able
to make the face while zipping by....
Great FUN! Gorgeous rain forest, Alaska is my
favorite state.

Trick or TREAT For Grown Ups

CANDY CORN CORDIAL

Sip for yourself right before the trick or treaters arrive.

For the infused vodka:

1 cup candy corn
1 1/2 cups vodka

For the cordials:

2 ounces orange liqueur
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 large egg white
Candy corn, for garnish

Directions

Infuse the vodka: Combine the candy corn and vodka in an airtight

container; set aside for at least 3 hours, then strain.

Make the cordials: Add 4 ounces of the candy corn vodka,

the orange liqueur, lemon juice and egg white to a cocktail

shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds.

Strain into 2 chilled martini glasses and garnish with candy corn.

Alterations:
-increase the amount of candy corn -
- infuse at least over night-
-use meringue powder instead of egg whites-
-use pasteurized egg whites-

Things learned from watching TV

I learned that mistakes happen...just try not to make too many.

I realized you could really love someone no matter how goofy they were.

Crime is scary. I often watched
the night skies for the Bat signal.

I was a Romper Room Doo Bee and proud of it.

I wanted to live in a bottle.

I wanted a huge piece of bread for weeks.
No matter how often I asked, my mom
wouldn't bake bread. One day I ran into
the back yard with an entire loaf of Wonder Bread.
AND I got into big trouble over it.

Captain Satellite - A 1960's San Francisco area TV show. I remember meeting
him in person at a local shopping center. I was so disappointed
when he drove up in a car.....I thought he was coming by spaceship.
I grew up a little bit that day.

Captain Kangaroo. I wanted him to be my
grandfather because I didn't have one.
I insisted that my Nana call him. She always said
"not today".

I think a little bit of TV is good for a kid.
It just depends on what they watch.

Let's try Hot Apple Pie with Sparks

Hot Apple Pie with Sparks!
Layer the Irish cream and Goldschlager
cinnamon schnapps in a shot glass.
Very gently, pour the Bacardi 151 on top.
Carefully ignite the 151.
Throw small handfuls of cinnamon
powder on top 2 - 3 times to make sparks.
Blow out and serve.

I got some very cool artist trading blocks from Outside The Margins.
I was lucky enough to snag a few of their painted/weathered/worn blocks.
They might have more but you might have to make a special private request....
They have been sitting on my desk for a while now.
I knew I did not want to change it much....
So, today I decided I would make a simple *Journal Block* that
speaks about how I feel about life.
I added a very tiny bit of paint,
the text and a clay bird on top. This will sit
on my kitchen window sill.

Here is my inchie for Every Inchie Monda y.
The inspirational word is Mirthful.
I did this quick.....I used an inchie square from Inchie Arts. I sprayed
this square pretty heavily with Color Mists from Outside the Margins.
The square was pretty drenched but held up nicely....I dried it with
a blow dryer and quickly glued on my text, papers and image (from Suga Jam's blog).
Just a light hearted, fun and mirthful inchie!
